About Monica
Aesthetician, Massage Therapist, Acupuncturist…
My journey to becoming a Registered Acupuncturist began long before I decided to pursue professional training. It started in my mother’s kitchen; a space filled with the aroma of simmering herbs and the nurturing presence of my grandmother. I grew up in the vibrant, fast-paced city of Hong Kong, and was raised in a household where Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) was not just a medical option—it was a way of life.
Throughout my childhood, adolescence, and early adult years, TCM was my primary healthcare system. My mother and grandmother were the original guardians of my well-being - meticulously preparing "cooling" herbal teas (leung cha) to combat the intense humidity of Hong Kong summers, as well as brewing diverse, nourishing soups tailored to the specific needs of our bodies during different seasons. These early experiences became the foundation of my initial TCM knowledge: learning the importance of balancing Yin and Yang; understanding the flow of Qi; and treating the body holistically before minor symptoms could escalate into illness.
I developed a deep appreciation for the body’s innate ability to heal when given the right support. I saw firsthand how preventative care can be achieved through a diet of healthy foods and herbs and cultivate lasting health. I felt a strong calling to take this ancestral wisdom and formalize it, and transitioned from being a recipient of this care to a practitioner who can provide it with others.
As a Registered Acupuncturist, I endeavor to bring together the traditional practices of my culture with modern, evidence-based practices. I specialize not only in acupuncture but also in dietary and lifestyle counseling, and educating my clients on how to utilize food as medicine, in a way akin to how my mother taught me.
My goal is to provide a warm, nurturing, and professional environment where patients can experience the profound, holistic benefits of Chinese medicine. I am passionate about guiding my patients toward leading balanced and healthy lives by helping them to cultivate "Qi" and restore harmony within their bodies.
